I do believe I'll make a Welsh Harvest cake this evening...

It was traditional on Sunday to serve the Yorkshire pudding and gravy before the beef in an attempt at frugality - i.e. so that hungry folks could fill up before they got round to the meat. In that way, the leftover beef could be used later in the week for rissoles, cottage pie, cold meat sandwiches etc.

I suspect that the Poysers served their plum pudding first with similar intent :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16479026.post-90144885027060982492007-09-26T20:35:00.000+01:002007-09-26T20:35:00.000+01:00Looks delicious! Loved the extract from Adam Bede - Hardy is also very good on the sweat of harvest.

We don't eat much cake in this house, mostly because of the butter/cholesterol which is banned since my husband's heart attack, but I think I really could make an exception in this case

Thanks for sharing
Joanna
joannasfood.blogspot.comJoannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06790888857849562408noreply@blogger.com
